Week 4 is a week of tips. The sewing community are so supportive and I’m always learning new tips and ideas from everyone. I was excited that this week it was going to give me chance to find out even more!
Since joining Instagram I love spending time looking at peoples accounts for inspiration. It’s amazing to see different versions of my latest projects and also to search before I’m about to start something new. These are my top 4 for inspiration:
@sewvee makes the most amazing dresses from African wax cotton. I wish I had her guts to wear the bright patterns, they are truest beautiful.
@pinsandpinot just oozes style! Her makes are simple but the fabric choices are perfect. The composition of her photos take my breath away.
@joy.margot is a girl after my own heart- colour and patterns! This photo of her recent Tilly and the Buttons Mila Dungarees wants me to make them straight away.
@sewhappy_alex I love her YouTube channel and love her infectious enthusiasm. I have a serious heart eyes looking at her model shoots in the new Tilly and the Buttons Stretch book 😍
I admit that I don’t reach for my books if I’m stuck. Goggle is my friend here. But I’m starting to make up a lovely collection of sewing books. The Cath Kidston books were bought as present as too were the GBSB. My recent purchase of ‘Stretch’ has made me excited about jersey. I have made the Frankie T shirt and I have the Stella hoodie and joggers cut out ready as my next project.
I have only recently discovered podcasts and they have transformed my commute to work. My first discovery was the Love to Sew podcast – it’s like listening to sewing friends. I am truest addicted. Desert Island discs features celebrity’s picking 8 songs they would like to take if they are deserted on a desert island. I loved the episode with Ed Sheeren. The Fringe of It is a new female lifestyle podcast and I just nod along in agreement with it all. I loved their pilot episode about ‘adult friendship’. The final podcast and the most recent released podcast is ‘Stitchers Brew’. It’s only been 3 episode but I’m hooked.
My chameleon pattern is the Tilly and the Buttons Agnes. I’ve made several versions, long sleeved, short sleeved and even jacked it into a dress. I love the fit and style of this top. It’s a perfect wardrobe basic.
I love to use up my scraps as interesting facings and linings. This is the inside of my most recent Tilly and the Buttons Cleo. It’s like a secret, no one but me knows of the interesting feature!
My quick fix pattern is the True Bias ‘Ogden Cami’. I can make this pattern up in under an hour. I have 5 so far and I know I’m going to make many more before the summer comes!!
I love a good bargain! Especially when fabric is involved. I love visiting the Rag Market in Birmingham to get my fabric fix without breaking the bank. As well as the stalls on the market, there are several shops including Barry’s Fabrics which is like an Aladdins Cave of fabric.
Next week is the final week of #miymarch18. I’ve loved this challenge and can’t wait to see what the themes of next week will be.
